After completing his LLB/MGT, Afenyo-Markin returned to Ghana to further his legal training. He attended the Ghana School of Law, where he received his Barrister at Law certification between 2007 and 2009.

Not content with stopping there, Afenyo-Markin sought to broaden his horizons by delving into international politics and security studies. He achieved this by earning a Master’s degree from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom, from 2009 to 2010.

Afenyo Markin’s career began in the postal sector, where he served as a Principal Postal Officer at the Ghana Post Company Limited from 1999 to 2003. This early role provided him with a solid foundation in public administration and operations.

In 2004, Afenyo-Markin transitioned into the private sector, taking on the role of Director at Excel Courier Ghana Limited. He held this position until 2011, during which time he honed his skills in business management and logistics. Concurrently, he also pursued a career in law, becoming an Associate at Dehenya Chambers from 2010 to 2016, where he applied his legal expertise to various cases and issues.


Afenyo-Markin’s political career began in earnest in 2012 when he was elected as the Member of Parliament for the Effutu constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). His victory over the NDC parliamentary candidate, Mike Allen Hammah, marked the start of his legislative journey.

As a parliamentarian, Afenyo-Markin has been a member of several key committees, including the Defense and Interior Committee, Finance Committee, and the Committee of Selection. His contributions to these committees have been significant in shaping national policies and legislation.

In 2017, Afenyo-Markin was appointed as the chairman of the Ghana Water Company Ltd (GWCL). During his tenure, he faced allegations related to the near collapse of GWCL and other financial improprieties, which led him to launch a defamation lawsuit to clear his name.

Afenyo-Markin’s commitment to regional cooperation was evident when he was sworn in during the Extraordinary Session 2021 of the Parliament of the ECOWAS in Freetown, Sierra Leone, alongside other notable parliamentarians.
