Amanda Bardwell is the new CEO of Woolworths, the largest supermarket chain in Australia. She will replace Brad Banducci, who announced his retirement earlier this week. She has been working for Woolworths Group for 23 years and is currently the managing director of WooliesX, the company’s ecommerce division.
She has a background in marketing and online retail, and has been involved in various businesses within the Woolworths Group, such as Dan Murphy’s and Wine Quarter.
She is regarded as a proven leader, builder, and modern retailer by the Woolworths Group chair Scott Perkins. She is also one of the few female CEOs in the Australian corporate sector.

Amanda Bardwell was born in Queensland and grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. Her father owned a hardware store and her mother ran a catering business. She developed an interest in retail and marketing from a young age and helped out in her parents’ businesses.
She attended the University of Queensland, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in marketing. She then moved to Sydney and worked for a few advertising agencies, such as Saatchi & Saatchi and Leo Burnett.

Amanda Bardwell Career
Amanda Bardwell started her career in the food retail industry in Queensland, where she worked for five years for a food franchise.
She moved to Sydney and worked for several advertising agencies, such as Saatchi & Saatchi and Leo Burnett. She joined Woolworths Group in 2001 as a marketing manager for the liquor division, which has now been spun out into a separately-listed company Endeavour.
She worked her way up the ranks and became the head of marketing for Woolworths’ supermarkets, liquor and petrol businesses in 2006. She was responsible for launching several successful campaigns, such as the Fresh Food People and the Everyday Rewards program.
In 2010, she moved to the online retail sector and became the director of Woolworths’ digital food offering. She oversaw the development and growth of the company’s online grocery shopping and delivery services.
In 2017, she became the launch managing director of WooliesX, a division that combines ecommerce, technology, media and data to transform the way people live and shop. She led the innovation and expansion of WooliesX, which includes the Woolworths app, the Scan & Go technology, and the Cartology media arm.
She has received several accolades and recognition for her leadership and achievements. She was named one of the Top 50 CMOs in Australia by CMO Magazine in 2019 and 2020. She was also awarded the Retail Executive of the Year by CEO Magazine in 2020.
