Captain Smart was born on 5 May 1975 in the Eastern Region of Ghana, in a town called Koforidua and his real name is Blessed Godsbrain Smart. He was the third of six children of his parents, who were both teachers.

He had a humble upbringing and faced many challenges in his childhood. He once revealed that he used to sell ice water on the streets to support his family.

Captain Smart had a passion for media and communication from a young age. He attended Koforidua Secondary Technical School, where he was the entertainment prefect and a member of the school’s drama club.

He later pursued a degree in mass communication from Garden City University, graduating in 2010. He also holds a certificate in journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

Captain Smart started his career in journalism at Fox FM in Kumasi, where he gained experience and exposure in the media industry. He then moved to OTEC FM and Kesewa Radio, where he continued to hone his skills and build his reputation.

He later joined Nhyira FM, a subsidiary of the Multimedia Network, where he became one of the most popular and influential radio presenters in the country.

In 2013, Captain Smart was transferred to Adom FM, another subsidiary of the Multimedia Network, where he took over the morning show, Dwaso Nsem, from Adakabre Frimpong Manso. He quickly established himself as the King of Morning Show in Ghana, attracting a large and loyal audience with his captivating voice, verbal prowess, and confidence. He also used his platform to criticize corruption and incompetence among politicians and public officials, and to champion the cause of the poor and marginalized in society.

He then resigned from the company and joined the Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN), owned by business mogul Kwesi Oteng. He became the host of the morning show, Anopa Bofour, on Angel FM/TV, where he continued to deliver his unique and engaging style of broadcasting.

In 2021, Captain Smart left ABN and joined the Media General Group, where he currently hosts the morning show, Onua Maakye, on Onua TV/FM. He also runs his own media company, Smart Media, and his own foundation, Captain Smart Foundation, which supports various social and humanitarian projects in Ghana.
