Gaurang Rathi started his career as an IAS officer in 2016, after clearing the Civil Services Examination in his first attempt. He secured a high rank and was allotted the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He underwent rigorous training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, and various other institutes and departments.
Gaurang Rathi’s first posting was as the Joint Magistrate of Bahraich, a district in Uttar Pradesh. He served in this position from 2016 to 2018 and handled various administrative and developmental tasks. He also implemented several schemes and initiatives for the welfare of the people, especially the poor and marginalized sections. He also dealt with law and order, revenue, land, and disaster management issues.
Gaurang Rathi’s next posting was as the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He served in this position from 2018 to 2020 and played a key role in the development and transformation of the city.
He supervised and executed various projects and programs, such as the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, the Smart City Mission, the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Namami Gange Mission, and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He also coordinated with various stakeholders, such as the central and state governments, the local bodies, the NGOs, and the citizens.
