Kwabena Kwakye Biography
Kwabena Kwakye was a Ghanaian broadcaster, journalist, and political commentator who worked for Oman FM, a radio station owned by KenCity Media. He was also known as Wofa KK, a nickname that reflected his respect and popularity among his listeners and colleagues.
He hosted the station’s flagship political talk show, Boiling Point, where he discussed and analyzed various national issues with guests and callers. He was also a board member of the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) and a supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the ruling party in Ghana.
He passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, following a collapse at his workplace. Emergency services transported him to the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where he was later pronounced dead.
Kwabena Kwakye Early Life and Education
Kwakye was born in Ghana and grew up in Akim Awisa near Akim Oda in the Eastern Region. His early formative years commenced at Awisa Presbyterian School and Saltpond English Church Mission School, where he completed his education in 1937. He had a passion for storytelling and a desire to inform and empower his community from a young age.
He had his secondary education at Mfantsipim School from 1939 to 1943 and Achimota School from 1945 to 1946. He then pursued a career in media, driven by a commitment to uphold the principles of truth, integrity, and social justice.

Kwakye embarked on his professional journey as a parliamentary and presidential correspondent for Net2 TV. His insightful reporting and adeptness in engaging with audiences quickly garnered recognition, leading him to join Adom 106.3 FM, where he swiftly became a household name. Through his contributions to popular radio shows like “Dwaso Nsem” and “Pampaso,” Kwakye endeared himself to numerous Ghanaians.
He joined Oman FM, a subsidiary of Kencity Media, as a senior journalist and played a pivotal role in shaping the station’s editorial direction. He covered a wide range of topics with depth and insight and was a familiar voice on the air, engaging listeners with his articulate commentary and probing interviews. He was also a regular panellist on the station’s flagship political talk show, “National Agenda”.
He was also a supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the ruling party in Ghana, and a board member of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

Kwabena Kwakye’ Death
Kwabena Kwakye died on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, after collapsing at work. He was rushed to the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead.
According to a statement released by his employer, KenCity Media, the sad event occurred at about 11:10 am. The statement also expressed deep sorrow and regret over the sudden demise of the director of radio, Oman FM.
According to a close source to the media group, Kwabena Kwakye died as a result of a heart attack. His death was confirmed by his colleague, Afia Akoto, who shared his video on the morning show, National Agenda, on the same day.
