Mahendra Singh Dhoni, widely recognized as MS Dhoni or Mahi, is a retired Indian cricketer who served as the captain of the Indian cricket team across all formats from 2007 to 2017. He is widely regarded as one of the most successful and influential captains in the history of cricket.

Dhoni was born on 7 July 1981 in Ranchi, Bihar (now Jharkhand), India, in a Hindu Rajput family.
