Narendra Modi is the current prime minister of India, and also asenior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has been in office since May 2014, and was re-elected in 2019 with a landslide victory.

He is also a controversial figure, as he has been accused of involvement in the 2002 Gujarat riots, and of undermining democratic institutions and civil liberties.

He rose to become the chief minister of Gujarat in 2001 and held that position until 2014, when he led his party to a historic victory in the national elections.
