Philip Shaibu is a Nigerian politician who currently holds the position of Deputy Governor of Edo State. He was born on December 1, 1969 in Kaduna State to a Christian family.
He is an alumnus of University of Jos and University of Benin. He has been actively involved in politics, serving as a lawmaker and contributing to the development of his region.
He was elected as the majority leader of the Edo State House of Assembly in 2010 and later contested and won the Etsako Federal constituency House of Representatives seat in 2015.
He was unanimously announced as the running mate to governor Godwin Obaseki in 2016 and the duo eventually won the election. He was sworn in on November 12, 2016.

Philip Shaibu Early Life and Education
Philip Shaibu was born on December 1, 1969 in Kaduna State, Nigeria. His father, Pastor Francis Osikpomobo Shaibu, was a pastor and raised him up with strong Christian virtue. His mother’s name is Lucy Momoh.
Shaibu received his early education at St. Augustine Primary School, Tundu Wada Kaduna, but completed his studies at L.E.A Primary School in Barnawa, Kaduna State, where he obtained the First School Leaving Certificate. He later earned his West African Senior School Certificate in 1989 after attending Saudana Memorial Secondary School in Kawo, Kaduna.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree (Honours) in Accounting from the University of Jos in 2000, where he was the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) between 2000 and 2001. He pursued further education and obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Benin in 2015.

Philip Shaibu Career
After leaving school, Philip Shaibu commenced his career with the Nigerian Prisons Service in Abuja. However, he made the voluntary decision to retire as an Assistant Inspector of Prisons in 2002 to fully pursue a career in politics.
His first foray into politics occurred in 2003 when he contested elections for the Edo State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), albeit unsuccessfully. Since then, he has served as a majority leader at the Edo State House of Assembly, under the platform of different parties, and as a representative of Etsako Federal constituency at the National Assembly.
In 2015, following eight years of service at the Edo State House of Assembly, he successfully contested and won the Etsako Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat. He secured victory with 42,079 votes, defeating his closest rival, Abbas Braimah of the Peoples Democratic Party, who garnered 29,941 votes. This victory secured him the representative seat.
He was unanimously announced as the running mate to Governor Godwin Obaseki in the 2016 Edo State gubernatorial election. The duo emerged victorious in the election and were subsequently sworn in on November 12, 2016.
