Polycarp Igathe Biography
Polycarp Igathe is a prominent Kenyan businessman, politician and corporate executive. He acts as the Chief Commercial Officer in Equity Group Holdings, a leading financial services group in Africa. Prior to his current role, he held the position of Vice President overseeing Sales and Marketing at Vivo Energy Africa, a renewable energy company. Preceding this, he served as the Chief Commercial Officer at Equity Bank Kenya, subsequently assuming the role of Managing Director.
Igathe was elected as the second Deputy Governor of Nairobi County in the 2017 Kenyan general elections under the Jubilee Party ticket. However, he resigned as Deputy Governor of Nairobi County on 31 January 2018.
Igathe has a Bachelor of Arts in economics and sociology from the University of Nairobi and is a graduate of the Strathmore University’s Advanced Management Program (AMP) with IESE Business School in Spain.

Polycarp Igathe Early Life and Education
Polycarp Igathe was born on September 21, 1972 in Nairobi, Kenya. He attended Athi River Primary School and St George’s Primary School Ruiru for his primary school education.
He then went to Nkubu High School for his secondary education. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in economics and sociology from the University of Nairobi.
He is also a graduate of the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Strathmore University, in collaboration with IESE Business School in Spain. During his time at the University of Nairobi, Igathe served as the National Chairman of AIESEC in Kenya.
After graduating from university, Igathe got his first job in Australia as a finance officer at Queensland Health in Australia.

Polycarp Igathe Career
Following his graduation from the University of Nairobi in 1995, Igathe secured employment in Australia as a finance officer at Queensland Health. After a year and a half, he returned to Kenya and began working at Coca-Cola, where he remained until 2000.
Subsequently, he joined Africa Online as a sales and marketing manager before transitioning to Kenya Breweries Limited, where he initially served as the sales operations manager and later as the marketing manager.
In 2003, Igathe assumed the role of managing director at Haco Industries, where he remained for a decade before joining Vivo Energy Africa. During his tenure, he served as the Chairman of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers from 2012 to 2014 and chaired the Petroleum Institute of East Africa from 2014 to 2016.
He left Vivo Energy Africa in 2017 to run for office as the second Deputy Governor of Nairobi County on a Jubilee Party ticket. He resigned as Deputy Governor of Nairobi County on 31 January 2018.
He contested for the Nairobi Governor position in the 2022 General election under the Azimio-OKA coalition and secured the second position. He garnered 573,518 votes, while UDA’s Johnson Sakaja emerged as the winner with 699,392 votes.
In November 2022, he rejoined Tiger Brands, a South Africa-based food and beverage company, as the Chief Growth Officer for the Rest of Africa. Before joining Vivo Energy Africa, he held the position of Managing Director for East Africa at Tiger Brands.

Polycarp Igathe is married to Catherine Igathe, and together, they are the parents of three children: one son and two daughters. Catherine currently holds the position of General Manager – Distribution Kenya and Agency Channel Lead for Africa at AIG. With over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, Catherine has spent 12 years in Senior Management roles.
She is an alumna of United States International University – Africa, where she pursued International Business Administration. Additionally, she is a graduate of the Advanced Management Programme from Strathmore Business School and IESE Business School, Spain.
