Born on June 26, 1993, in Mumbai, India, Shivam Dube hails from Uttar Pradesh. Rajesh Dube, his father, is a businessman with a wrestling background from his youth. His mother, Madhuri Dube, is a homemaker. He has an elder sister named Pooja Dube.

He started playing cricket at a very young age. Soon, his father recognized his talent and enrolled him in Chandrakant Pant Cricket Academy, Andheri West, Mumbai to learn cricket. He also played school-level cricket and helped his school team win the title of under-14 Giles Shield. However, he stopped playing cricket at the age of 14 as he was overweight and unable to work on his fitness due to financial constraints. He returned to play cricket at the age of 19 after shedding his extra weight and working hard on his skills. He joined Karnatak Sporting Association, where he started playing under Satish Samant.

He started his career in the Mumbai domestic circuit, where he impressed with his power-hitting and medium-pace bowling. He made his debut for Mumbai in 2016, his List A debut in 2017, and his first-class debut in 2017.
