Susan Nakhumicha was born in Kitale, Kenya, in 1965, and grew up in a diverse and vibrant community.

Susan Nakhumicha Pharmaceutical Career
Susan Nakhumicha started her career as a pharmacist, after graduating from the Kenya Medical Training Institute (KMTC) with a diploma in Pharmacy in 1987. She worked in various pharmacies and hospitals, gaining practical experience and skills in dispensing and managing drugs.
She later pursued a diploma in Healthcare Management from the Kenya Institute of Management in 2006, which opened new opportunities for her in the health sector. She joined Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS), a faith-based organization that provides quality and affordable medical supplies and services to health facilities in Kenya and beyond. She rose through the ranks to become the Head of Procurement and Logistics, overseeing the sourcing, distribution, and inventory management of essential drugs and supplies.
She subsequently joined the UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences, where she assumed the role of Head of Supply Chain. She was responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of supply chain solutions for various health programs and projects, such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis. She also collaborated with local and international partners, such as the Ministry of Health, to strengthen the health systems and improve the access and quality of health services.

In 2022, Susan Nakhumicha made her foray into politics by contesting the position of Trans Nzoia Woman Representative under the Ford Kenya party. Although she lost to the UDA candidate Lilian Chebet Siyoi, she impressed President William Ruto with her vision and expertise. She was nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Health in 2023, replacing Mutahi Kagwe.
