Prior to his governorship, he represented Kaduna Central senatorial district as a Senator from June 11, 2019, to May 29, 2023.

Sani’s educational background includes a Master of Science degree in Finance from the University of Calabar and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Abuja. He also holds a qualification in Mechanical Engineering from Kaduna Polytechnic.

In his political career, Uba Sani has been a civil rights activist and held various advisory roles. Notably, he served as Special Adviser on Public Affairs to President Olusegun Obasanjo and worked with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Kaduna State Ministry of Housing and Works.

He contested for the Kaduna Central Senatorial seat in 2011 but lost the primaries.
