Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni was a former goalkeeper for the Nigerian women’s national football team, also known as the Super Falcons. She played for the team between 2012 and 2013, and also for Rivers Angels in the Nigerian Women’s Premier League.

Aluko-Olaseni was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, and underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. She revealed that she needed about N5 million for treatment in Nigeria, and appealed for help from the public and the Nigerian Football Federation.

Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni was born on June 12, 1991, in Ijurin Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. She grew up in a family of football lovers, and developed a passion for the game at an early age.

She attended St. Michael’s Primary School and Ijurin High School, where she excelled both academically and athletically.

Bidemi Aluko Football Career

Bidemi Aluko started her football career as a striker, but later switched to goalkeeper after being inspired by Vincent Enyeama, a former Nigerian men’s national team goalkeeper. She joined the Ekiti State female football team, and later moved to Delta Queens, where she won the Nigerian Women’s Premier League title in 2010.

She was first called up to the Nigerian women’s national team, also known as the Super Falcons, in 2012, and made her debut in a friendly match against South Africa. She was part of the squad that won the African Women’s Championship in 2012, and also represented Nigeria at the 2013 Cyprus Women’s Cup.


She played for Rivers Angels from 2013 to 2015, and helped them win the Nigerian Women’s Premier League title in 2014 and 2015, as well as the Nigerian Women’s FA Cup in 2014. She was also named the best goalkeeper in the league in 2014. She retired from football in 2015, due to her health problems.

Bidemi received a cancer diagnosis in 2017, leading to a series of treatments including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Facing significant medical expenses, she disclosed the need for approximately N5 million for treatment in Nigeria. She received support from various sources, including her former teammates, coaches, fans, and the Ekiti State government. She also received a donation of N10 million from the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, in 2020.
