Professor Sameer Khandekar was a faculty member at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kanpur, India. He held the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Chair Professorship and was also the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department. He received his PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 2004.

His areas of research were in the fields of two-phase heat transfer, heat pipes and thermosyphons, energy systems, and dropwise condensation. He authored numerous books, book chapters, journal articles, and conference papers centered around these subjects.

He also received various awards and fellowships, such as the Young Scientist Award by the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, in 2005, and the DAAD Research Fellowship in 2011.

He was the Chairperson of the Committee for International Heat Pipe Conferences and Symposia since September 2022.

Professor Sameer Khandekar was born in Jabalpur, India. He completed his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Government Engineering College, Jabalpur in 1993. He then worked as a marine power plant engineer on board sea-going merchant ships for four years (1994-1998). He pursued his M.Tech. in Thermo-fluid Sciences from IIT Kanpur and graduated in 2000. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Stuttgart, Germany in 2004. His doctoral thesis was on Thermo-Hydrodynamics of Closed Loop Pulsating Heat Pipes. He joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kanpur as an Assistant Professor in September 2004. He was a Professor and also the Head of the same department before he died.
