According to the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the helicopter was a Eurocopter EC130 operated by Orbic Air, a California-based charter company. It was traveling from Palm Springs, California, to Boulder City, Nevada, on Friday night, February 9, 2024. The helicopter took off around 8:45 p.m. and crashed just after 10 p.m. near Interstate 15 in Halloran Springs, California. Witnesses reported that the helicopter caught fire immediately after it hit the ground amid rainy and wintry conditions. All six people on board, including the two pilots, were killed in the crash.
The NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash, which could take up to two years to complete. The helicopter was not equipped with a cockpit voice recorder or a flight data recorder, which are not required for this type of aircraft.
