Chike-Obi was on 15 may, 1955 born in Anambra State, Nigeria, to a distinguished family of academics and professionals. His father was Chike Obi, a renowned mathematician and professor who was the first Nigerian to hold a doctorate in mathematics.

His mother was Belinda, a lawyer and activist who fought for women’s rights and social justice. Chike-Obi grew up in various parts of Nigeria, where he attended different schools and developed a keen interest in mathematics and science.

Chike-Obi started his Nigerian banking career in 1980 as the head of treasury at Chase Merchant Bank, where he created the Nigerian treasury department concept, the first such department in any Nigerian bank. He later moved to Goldman Sachs, where he worked as co-head of trading, mortgage-backed securities.

He also founded Madison Park Advisors, a financial service advisory and consulting firm specializing in hedge fund and private equity investment, located in New Jersey, U.S.A.

In 1992, Chike-Obi joined Bear Stearns & Co as co-head of emerging markets trading, where he gained valuable insights and skills in trading, portfolio management, risk analysis, and financial advisory. He also worked as managing director of Shoreline Group, an investment banking and asset management firm, from 2001 to 2006.

In 2010, Chike-Obi was appointed as the inaugural managing director and chief executive officer of AMCON, a corporation that was established to efficiently resolve the non-performing loan assets of banks in Nigeria¹. During his five-year tenure as MD/CEO of AMCON, Chike-Obi performed creditably and won many accolades and admiration from stakeholders in Nigeria’s banking and financial services industry. He successfully managed the acquisition, restructuring, and disposal of over $20 billion worth of bad debts from the banking sector.
