The motive behind the murder is suspected to be a custody dispute between Suchana Seth and her estranged husband, Venkat Raman, who is also a tech entrepreneur based in Jakarta.
Suchana Seth had planned the murder in advance and had fled to Bengaluru with her son’s body in a bag, but was intercepted and nabbed by the police.
Suchana Seth Early Life and Education
Suchana Seth was born in 1985 (age 39 years; as of 2024) in West Bengal, India. She did her schooling at DAV Girls Senior Secondary School, Gopalpuram, Chennai, where she excelled in academics and co-curricular activities. She won several awards and scholarships, including the National Talent Search Scholarship and the CBSE Merit Certificates in Sanskrit, Social Science, and English.
She completed her bachelor’s degree in physics (honours) at Bhawanipur Education Society College, Kolkata, affiliated with the University of Calcutta. Fascinated by quantum mechanics, relativity, and cosmology, she aspired to become a theoretical physicist.
Additionally, she cultivated a passion for Sanskrit, the ancient Indian language, and pursued a postgraduate diploma course in Sanskrit at Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Kolkata. Her studies encompassed the grammar, literature, and philosophy of Sanskrit, and she delved into classical texts such as the Vedas and Upanishads.
She continued her master’s degree in physics from the University of Calcutta, where she specialized in condensed matter physics. She worked on a research project on the electronic properties of graphene, a novel material with potential applications in nanotechnolog.
Suchana Seth also obtained certificates in digital printing and publishing and digital web authoring multimedia from NIIT. She was a brilliant student and a visionary thinker, who had a keen interest in artificial intelligence and ethics.

Suchana Seth started her career as a research fellow at Raman Research Institute in 2008, where she worked on a project on the electronic properties of graphene. She then joined Cactus Communications as a freelance editor in 2011, and later worked as an analytics consultant at Data Sciences Group, Innovation Labs.
In 2015, she founded Mindful AI Lab, a technical consultancy that provides AI solutions and ethical guidance to various clients. She is also an AI ethics expert and data scientist with over 12 years of experience in natural language processing, computer vision, and deep learning.
She has published several papers in reputed journals and conferences, such as the International Conference on Machine Learning, the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, and the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research.
