Yusuf Gagdi started his career as a civil servant in the Plateau State Civil Service, where he rose to the rank of Assistant Director in the Ministry of Information and Communication.

He also worked as a lecturer at the Plateau State Polytechnic, where he taught public administration.

He joined politics in 2011 and ran for the Pankshin North Constituency seat in the Plateau State House of Assembly. He was elected and served as a member of the House from 2011 to 2019, serving as the Majority Leader for eight years.

He ran for the House of Representatives in 2019 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State. He won the election and was sworn in on June 11, 2019.
