He had been battling an undisclosed illness for many years, which had previously led to him being pulled off air after collapsing during a show in 2021. In 2022, he again fell ill while in the studio and could not complete his show. At that time, Mchunu had expressed his intention to seek help from traditional healers, as medical doctors had been unable to diagnose his condition.

Mchunu’s health issues were a concern for some time, and he had been in and out of the hospital over the past four years. On the day of his passing, he was rushed to the hospital after complaining about something on his chest. Unfortunately, he passed away while being transported to the hospital.
