Bode George Biography
Bode George is a Nigerian politician and former naval officer. He was the Military Governor of Ondo State from 1988 to 1990, and later the Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority from 1999 to 2003.
He is also a prominent member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and has served as the national vice-chairman in the southwest zone of the party.

Bode George Early Life and Education
Bode George was born on November 21, 1945, in Lagos. He came from a prominent family in Lagos, with connections to Herbert Macaulay, a nationalist leader. His paternal grandmother was a Brazilian returnee who settled in Lagos with her children. His maternal grandmother was a Nupe woman from Niger State.
Bode George was raised by his grandparents, who were both reverend ministers in the Methodist Church. He attended St. Paul’s Primary School and CMS Grammar School in Lagos. He was also a choir boy and learned to play the piano.
Bode George joined the Nigerian Navy in 1964, after completing his secondary education. He received his naval training in Nigeria, India, and the United Kingdom. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the Royal Naval Engineering College in Plymouth, England.
Bode George later earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Lagos. He also attended the National War College in Abuja, where he was a director.

Bode George became the Military Governor of Ondo State from 1988 to 1990, during the regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. He was credited with establishing the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, and initiating several developmental projects in the state. He also faced allegations of corruption and mismanagement of public funds.
Bode George was appointed the Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority in 1999, by President Olusegun Obasanjo. He oversaw the operations of the ports and introduced reforms to improve efficiency and security. He also tackled the problems of port congestion, clearance of goods, and payment of debts. He served in this capacity until 2003.
Bode George became a prominent member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and served as the national vice-chairman in the southwest zone of the party. He was involved in the party’s campaigns and elections, and was seen as a loyalist of Obasanjo. He also had a bitter rivalry with Bola Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bode George was convicted and sentenced to 30 months in prison in 2009, for abuse of office and disobedience to constituted authority during his tenure as the chairman of the NPA.
He was found guilty of inflating contracts, splitting tenders, and disregarding due process. He was released in 2011, after serving two years of his sentence. He maintained his innocence and claimed that he was a victim of political persecution.
